LIVE BY REQUEST and TOO MANY BUBBLES dead heat in $21,600 allowance test
Source: www.nybreds.com
|
Francis J. Paolangeli's LIVE BY REQUEST and Dutchessviews Farm's TOO MANY BUBBLES battled through the final yards and reached the wire on even terms to prove best in today's $21, 600 allowance test by a neck. Today's field scratched down to four with William Punk and Philip Dileo's Citrine the odds on choice at $1.05 to 1. Trained by Chris Englehart, Citrine was coming off a convincing wire-to-wire to five length romp. That test was at six furlongs and with NW1X. Prior to that race, the state-bred speedster was shipped to Mountaineer Park and ran against wide-open allowance types which had never won four races. Citrine showed her early speed but faded to a well beaten sixth. Today's race was for fillies and mares which had never won two state-bred races other than going six furlongs. Live By Request was also taking plenty action and was let go as the second choice at $1.75 to 1.
|
| Trained by Charlton Baker, Live by Request also wired a field of NW1X in fine fashion by just under four lengths. Live by Request and Citrine are the speed of the race and on paper it appeared they would be vying for the lead from the outset. Live by Request with Badamo astride quickly took a length lead while getting the opening quarter in 22.16. Citrine was out along four path with Too Many Bubbles three lengths back. Live by Request reached the quarter pole in 45.79 with Citrine chasing a length and one-half back. Meanwhile, Too Many Bubbles was saving all the ground and slipped inside while in gear. Live by Request and Too Many Bubbles reached the eighth pole together with Citrine dropping back. Despite breaking the air, Bold Jubilation with Parker Buckley in the saddle were taking the overland route and had only three lengths to make-up with a furlong to go. Too Many Bubbles and Live by Request battled to the line with the placing judges unable to separate them and posted a dead heat on the tote board. Bold Jubilation finished strongly to miss her win picture by a neck. The winners covered the distance over a sloppy track in 1:13.56 with each earning $8,856. Bred by Dutchess View Farm, Too Many Bubbles a 5 year old mare by American Standard out of Best of Bubbles by Graustark now has five career wins and $118,871 in the bank. Live by Request, bred by New Life Farm, the three year old filly by Regal Classic out of Morningstar Mona by Wavering Monarch now has five wins out of 14 tries and $60,242 in money won. Both winners qualified for $1,771 in breeders' awards. |

Mt. Vernon winner Brandala has first foal - colt by graded SW Ommadon
Source: www.nybreds.com
Rab Hagin Report
Sorin Stables' homebred winner of a division of Belmont's 2004 Mount Vernon Handicap for New York-bred fillies and mares on turf, BRANDALA, produced her first foal at Dutchess Views Farm in Pine Plains on Friday, February 3 -- a colt by Sorin Stables' homebred graded winner Ommadon (Grindstone - Missymooiloveyou, by Turkoman). In addition to this colt being out of a New York-bred stakes-winning mare, his sire -- who stands at Metropolitan Stud in Pine Plains that is managed by Michael Lischin and Anya Sheckley along with Dutchess Views Farm -- also is out of a New York-bred stakes-winning mare. Brandala, the 15th stakes winner sired by the late New York-based stallion Compliance, was the second of four New York-bred winners produced from three-time winner Sr. Ferra, who is by Jeblar and is a half-sister to stakes winner Continental Morn ($284,723) and stakes-placed winner Chin Up. Racing for the Sorin Stables of orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Kirvin III of West Palm Beach, Florida, the mare began placing in turf stakes as a five-year-old, finishing second in Belmont's $150,000 Ticonderoga Handicap on New York Showcase Day and third in Saratoga's $111,550 Yaddo Handicap. The following year as a six-year-old, Brandala made a devastating stretch run to win a division of the Mount Vernon, highlighting a career in which she compiled a record of 7 - 5 - 6 in 41 starts and earned $361,242.
Ommadon, named after a wizard in an animated film that was a favorite among Dr. Kirvin's children, Flight of the Dragons, also was a homebred for Sorin Stables. Although bred to run long and possibly specialize on turf, the long-striding bay was one of the top-ranked main track two-year-olds of 2000, when he recorded the still-highest Daily Racing Form Beyer Figure in the one-mile history of Aqueduct's Grade 3 Nashua Stakes. Ommadon is out of New York-bred Grade 3 winner Missymooiloveyou ($187,110), whom Dr. Kirvin had purchased for $27,000 at Fasig-Tipton's 1991 Saratoga select yearling sale from the consignment of John Hettinger's Akindale Farm. Missymooiloveyou was named after Dr. Kirvin's daughter Danika, whose nickname is Missymoo. Although Ommadon's racing career was compromised by a fractured coffin bone shortly after winning his three-year-old seasonal debut at Aqueduct, he came back to win again as a four-year-old and entered stud in 2004 at Metropolitan Stud. Brandala's first foal is from Ommadon's second crop.

DR. ISOM breaks his maiden by 10-1/4 lengths in front-running fashion at six furlongs
Source: www.nybreds.com
Breaking his maiden by 10-1/4 lengths in front-running fashion at six furlongs was Double R Stable's and Stephen Weiss's homebred DR. ISOM, who as the 2.25-to-1 second choice among seven New York-bred starters with $25,000 claiming prices -- four-year-olds and up -- got his first win in nine starts. He also provided apprentice jockey Pablo Morales, who rides with a five-pound allowance and had never previously been aboard DR. ISOM in competition, with that jockey's second consecutive winning ride of the day. Twenty-two days earlier, the four-year-old gelding had recorded his first top-three finish with a third-place effort going a mile and 70 yards over a muddy Aqueduct inner track in a restricted maiden claiming contest at the same $25,000 level. Bred by the J. I. Racing Inc. of James Iselin of Wanamassa, New Jersey in partnership with co-owner Double R Stable (Roger Weiss), which jointly qualified for a $1,920 breeder award, DR. ISOM pushed the progeny earnings for his New York-based sire, GOLDMINERS GOLD , to almost $1.6-million. Syndicated multiple stakes winner GOLDMINERS GOLD (Crafty Prospector - Miss Secreto, by Secreto) stands at Metropolitan Stud (managed by Michael Lischin and Anya Sheckley) and already has been represented by a pair of four-year-old winners at Aqueduct in 2006. DR. ISOM, whose half-siblings include six-time winner Lady Caren ($179,705), is at least the fifth New York-bred winner that J. I. Racing Inc. and Double R Stable have bred from 10-time sprint winner American Me ($135,985), who is a half-sister to turf stakes-winning mare Marfa's Taxes ($171,049).

FAST IZ A TURTLE rallied along the rail in his seventh outing -- second consecutive -- under jockey Jose Espinoza to beat 2.85-to-1 favorite Rapid Rickey
Source: www.nybreds.com
Although he was coming off a restricted N1X allowance win on Aqueduct's inner track just 29 days earlier, Team B Stable's FAST IZ A TURTLE was dismissed as the 28.50-to-1 tenth choice among 11 starters in a restricted N2X allowance/optional claiming contest for four-year-olds and up going six furlongs. Advancing from next-to-last after the opening quarter-mile, the four-year-old gelding rallied along the rail in his seventh outing -- second consecutive -- under jockey Jose Espinoza to beat 2.85-to-1 favorite Rapid Rickey despite conceding five pounds to that rival. The result increased FAST IZ A TURTLE's earnings by $27,000 to $86,791 while improving his record to three wins in ten starts for the Team B Stable of Jacqueline O'Brien. Trained by Colum O'Brien, who had given him a solid half-mile workout over Belmont's training track on December 23, FAST IZ A TURTLE was bred by the Bona Fortuna Stable of Donald Nitchman of Caladon Farms in Schuylerville, which qualified for a $5,400 breeder award. He is among 22 winners sired by multiple stakes winner GOLDMINERS GOLD (Crafty Prospector - Miss Secreto, by Secreto), who stands at Metropolitan Stud (managed by Michael Lischin) in Pine Plains with cumulative progeny earnings of more than $1.5-million and whose 2001 partnership owners qualified for a $1,890 stallion award. The dam of FAST IZ A TURTLE, the Quiet American mare Turtle, had been purchased for $40,000 as a Keeneland 1996 September sales yearling by bloodstock agent and equine geneticist David Foye. Her dam (FAST IZ A TURTLE's maternal granddam), two-time winner Foolish Reality, is a half-sister to stakes winner Foolin Spruce ($234,282) and to the stakes-placed dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Jostle ($1,389,932). Fast Iz a Turtle is inbred 3 x 4 to Mr. Prospector.
