Champion Northern Spur and stakes winner Yankee Mon will stand at Michael Lischin's Dutchess Views Farm/Metropolitan Stud near Pine Plains, N.Y.
Northern Spur, who will stand for $3,000, has sired nine runners that have won or placed in stakes. His stakes winners are led by graded winner Chausson Poire. Northern Spur has progeny earnings of nearly $4-million.
A 16-year-old son of Sadler's Wells out of the Rheingold mare Fruition, Northern Spur was voted 1995 champion turf male after winning the Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT). He formerly stood at True North Farm near Versailles, Ky.
Yankee Mon, a 6-year-old son of Maria's Mon, has been retired from racing and will stand for $2,500. At Belmont Park, he captured the Evan Shipman Handicap and was twice stakes-placed. A $395,000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling, he retired with five wins and four placings from 20 races and earnings of $222,716 for Richard and Susan Imbert's Windmill Manor Farm.
Yankee Mon is a half-brother to the dam of grade I winner Appealing Zophie. His dam, Sodeo Sodeo (by Seattle Slew), is a half-sister to three stakes winners, including grade I winner Croeso.

NY stallion Gold Fever has unique November-double down under & over jumps
Source: Rab Hagin
Rarely within a week does a stallion have a major North American winner over jumps and another significant stakes winner on the flat in Australia , but that has happened with New York-based GOLD FEVER, standing at Dutchess Views Farm/Metropolitan Stud in Pine Plains under the management of Questroyal Stud, LLC. On Saturday, November 3, Gold Fever's six-year-old son Planets Aligned ($285,958) scored his third hurdle win of 2007 in the $100,000 Aflac U.S. Championship Supreme Hurdle Stakes at 2-1/4 miles at the Steeplechase at Callaway in Pine Mountain, Georgia, winning under co-topweight of 153 pounds. The homebred for the Fox Ridge Farm, Inc. of Peter Schiff of Syosset , New York also has four wins on flat turf at Saratoga (twice), Belmont , and Aqueduct. The chestnut gelding has been ridden in all of his hurdle victories by jump jockey Chip Miller under the guidance of trainer Thomas Voss.
A week later on Saturday, November 10, Gold Fever's seven-year-old Australian-bred son, Cat in a Hat, captured Australia’s 2,200-meter (about a mile and three-eighths) Ascot Gold Cup on turf by a length and three-quarters. Other stakes winners sired by the syndicated Grade 1 winner include graded-winning millionaires A Bit O'Gold ($1,788,256) and Gold Mover ($1,523,010) -- both of whom earned all or most of their bankrolls on dirt (although the former was a Canadian turf champion as well as Canadian Horse of the Year). Gold Fever (Forty Niner - Lead Kindly Light, by Majestic Light), who is currently one of New York's millionaire sires for 2007 (with 2007 progeny earnings approaching $1.25-million), has lifetime offspring earnings of almost $17-million. He has stood in New York since the 2003 breeding season, and his 2008 fee will be $3,500, live foal.

Gr. SW/4-time G1-placed Andromeda's Hero at Dutchess Views/Metropolitan by Rab Hagin
Source: www.nybreds.com
Since arriving on Labor Day eve (September 2) at Michael Lischin's Dutchess Views Farm / Metropolitan Stud in Pine Plains -- where he will stand in 2008 for $6,000, live foal -- syndicated graded winner ANDROMEDA'S HERO already has covered and reportedly impregnated the first four of several mares bound for Australia. The five-year-old multiple stakes winner, who entered stud in 2007 in Kentucky, finished in the top-three in more Grade 1 stakes than any other offspring of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus and is the first son of that stallion to stand in New York. A few years from now, an Australian Melbourne Cup winner might even be New York-conceived.
Lischin, who indicated that Andromeda's Hero is standing under the co-management of Questroyal Stallions, explained that an outbreak of equine influenza in Australia has severely restricted the breeding there and that Fusaichi Pegasus -- sire of two Australian-bred Group 1 winners -- is extremely popular "down under." To meet the anticipated demand resulting from an inevitable foal shortage, mares arriving from non-quarantined New York carrying foals by one of Fusaichi Pegasus's best sons are obviously expected to be well received in Australia. For the 2008 breeding season in New York, Lischin anticipates 15 in-foal mares belonging to the stallion's current syndicate owners (among them Kentucky Downs' new co-owner, Corey Johnsen) arriving from Kentucky to foal in the Empire State, where they will be bred back to Andromeda's Hero. There also are "still a couple of shares available" in the stallion, according to Lischin, who pointed out that those shares entitle two annual seasons each rather than one and therefore are ideal for breeders considering more than one mare to send to Andromeda's Hero. Lischin further revealed that he planned to breed 10 of his own mares in 2008 to the son of Fusaichi Pegasus - Marozia, by Storm Bird.
Earner of $831,241, Andromeda's Hero broke his maiden by seven lengths going seven furlongs as a juvenile and was a multiple stakes-winning three-year-old, concluding a season in which he placed second in the Belmont Stakes by winning Calder's graded Fred W. Hooper Handicap by almost two lengths at odds-on. His graded-placed accomplishments the following year included efforts in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, Donn, and Suburban Handicaps. A full brother to stakes-winning Grade 1-placed Superfly, Andromeda's Hero is from the same female family as Grade 1 winner and first-crop sire Whywhywhy, who already has sired two 2007 juvenile stakes winners from his initial crop.

Andromeda’s Hero to stand at Metropolitan Stud
Source: www.thoroughbredtimes.com
Grade 3 winner Andromeda’s Hero, runner-up in the 2005 Belmont Stakes (G1), will stand the 2008 season for $6,000 at Michael Lischin’s Dutchess Views Farm/Metropolitan Stud in Pine Plains, New York.
The five-year-old by Fusaichi Pegasus out of the winning Storm Bird mare Marozia, stood his initial season last year for $12,500 at Richland Hills in Midway, Kentucky.
Andromeda’s Hero is standing under the co-management of Questroyal Stallions.
Campaigned by Robert LaPenta, Andromeda’s Hero won four of 25 starts, including the 2005 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs en route to a third-place finish in the Arkansas Derby (G2) at Oaklawn Park. He was unplaced in the Kentucky Derby (G1) in his subsequent start, then finished second to Afleet Alex in the Belmont Stakes. He wrapped up his sophomore campaign by winning the Fred W. Hooper Handicap (G3) at Calder Race Course.
As a four-year-old, Andromeda’s Hero finished third in the Donn (G1) and Suburban (G1) Handicaps and the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) for trainer Nick Zito. He earned $836,961 over three seasons.
A full brother to Grade 1-placed stakes winner Superfly, Andromeda’s Hero hails from the same female family as Grade 1 winner and freshman sire Whywhywhy.

Snows Gone wins for fun in $22,600 Feature
Source: www.nybreds.com
|
Epona Two Stable's SNOWS GONE was taken back at the start by jockey Robert Messina and then waited patiently and the duo rallied when asked to capture today's featured eighth race by ten lengths. Trained by Carl J. Domino, SNOWS GONE was coming off a neck decision here going five and one-half furlongs. That rallying score was against never won four allowance types. Windy Hill Stable's Louise the Tease coming off a runner-up finish in her local debut here on May 18 iwas listed as the 8 to 5 morning favorite to take today's $22,600 featured eighth race. Louise the Tease trained by Daniel H. Conway Jr was the favorite in the race and was sent off at 9 to 5 with SNOWS GONE the second choice at 2.40 to 1. Today's contest at one mile and seventy yards was for fillies and mares which had never won a state-bred race other than. Seven rivals went to the gate and all were shooting for the $13,560 winners share. Louise the Tease with Elaine Castillo broke alertly and went out to contest the lead with Expensive Lesson with the opening quarter clocked in 23.94. Louise the Tease shook loose and stopped the timer for the half mile in 48.65. Meanwhile, SNOWS GONE was let loose by Messina and the duo collared Louise the Tease midway on the final turn. SNOWS GONE got the three-quarters in 1:14.60 and a length lead. Louise the Tease took up the chase with Just Fine making a bid on the outside. SNOWS GONE widened with every stride and in a hand ride by Messina proved clearly best by ten lengths. Louise the Tease held off Just Fine by three-quarters of a length to secure the place. SNOWS GONE covered the distance over a fast track in 1:45.16 and earned $13,560. Bred by Dutchess Views Farm, the five year old mare by Gone for Real out of Des Nieges by Pilgrim now has five career wins out of 19 starts and $100,157 in money won. Also the Carl J. Domino trained runner qualified for $2,712 in breeders' awards. |
